Overeating and weight gain
According to Henry W. Wright
Possible spiritual roots
Lack of a sense of worth and safety, conflict with oneself, the need to be loved, and fear of people, failure, rejection, or abandonment.
In the author’s account: Food gives temporary relief and a sense of safety but reinforces a cycle of compulsive self-comforting and further self-rejection.
Spiritual response
Entrust fear, emptiness, and the need for comfort to Jesus; renounce self-rejection and the spirit of gluttony and addiction; receive God’s love, worth, and safety; develop moderation and healthy care for the body; pray for freedom in eating and proper metabolism.
Wright also allows for a genetic component.
