Graves' disease

Henry W. Wright’s perspective

Possible spiritual roots

Fear, anxiety, and chronic stress. Wright describes this first layer as an established life of tension and a sense of threat.

According to Wright, emotional shock or a prolonged period of anxiety may become the main triggering point.

Autoimmune layer

When an autoimmune component is present, Wright identifies self-rejection, self-hatred, and guilt as a second area for discernment.

In his account, prolonged activation of the sympathetic nervous system affects thyroid function.

Wright discusses both fear and emotional shock, and self-conflict in the autoimmune aspect of Graves’ disease.

Spiritual response

The spiritual response involves giving fear and the effects of emotional shock to God, receiving his love, rejecting self-condemnation, and praying for peace, freedom, and healing.
