Anorexia and Bulimia

According to Henry W. Wright

Possible Spiritual Roots

The common core consists of: self-hatred, self-rejection, and guilt.

Additionally, in the description of bulimia

Regarding bulimia, the author also describes the emptiness resulting from a feeling of not being loved, as well as overeating.

Wright links this internal conflict to decreased serotonin levels and the reinforcement of a disturbed eating pattern.

The Spiritual Response

Discern whether self-hatred, self-rejection, and guilt are actually present; if so, renounce, remove, and accept God’s love, dignity, and identity; in the case of bulimia, additionally work on accepting love instead of filling the void with food; pray for healing.
