Tarot
Divination with cards bearing esoteric symbolism
Description
Tarot is a form of divination using cards with esoteric symbolism. It is used to seek answers to questions about the future, relationships, hidden influences or life decisions.
Scripture prohibits divination (Deuteronomy 18:10–11). From a biblical perspective, the problem is seeking knowledge and spiritual guidance through divination. When the cards serve this function, presenting them as entertainment, a tool for self-knowledge or a psychological method does not change the nature of the practice.
Symptoms / signs
A concerning sign is an increasingly strong need to consult the cards about decisions and a fear of acting without their “confirmation.” This may be accompanied by persistent anxiety and weakened trust in God.
Possible roots / causes
Involvement includes reading tarot for oneself or others, receiving divinations and taking part in courses that teach this practice. It also includes regularly using a “card of the day” when its content is treated as guidance directing one's life.
Help / what next
Stop reading cards and using divination. Remove the deck used for this practice. Confess your involvement to God, renounce tarot and turn to Him for wisdom and guidance. You can bring persistent anxiety or attachment to the cards into prayer in the name of Jesus Christ for deliverance and the restoration of peace.
“Let there be no one among you who practices divination or sorcery or divination by the flight of birds, no sorcerer, no one who casts spells or summons spirits, no soothsayer and no one who consults the dead.”
Deuteronomy 18:10–11
