Kundalini yoga
A practice aimed at spiritual “awakening”
Description
Kundalini yoga combines bodily postures, breathing exercises, meditation and mantras with a specific spiritual goal: the “awakening” of kundalini — described in Hinduism as a dormant power at the base of the spine. This goal is part of the practice itself, rather than a later addition.
It should therefore not be treated as ordinary exercise or a neutral way to rest. The exercises serve to open a person to a particular power and spiritual system that is incompatible with Christian devotion to Jesus Christ.
Symptoms / signs
After such practices, some people describe waves of heat, shaking, involuntary bodily movements, altered states of consciousness, intense anxiety or a sense that a foreign force is at work. These experiences are discussed more fully in the “Spirit of kundalini” card.
Possible roots / causes
Involvement may include attending kundalini yoga classes and workshops, practicing independently using recordings or courses, and participating in initiations.
What matters is the actual content of the practice, not only the name of the class: the mantras and meditations used, chakra work and the conscious pursuit of a kundalini “awakening”. Individual classes are also worth taking into account, not only longer involvement.
Help / what next
End the practice and reject its spiritual goal. Renounce the mantras, meditations and initiations associated with it, and turn to God in the name of Jesus Christ.
If disturbing experiences persist, further discernment and prayer for deliverance may be needed.
