Energy initiations and transmissions

Rituals for receiving spiritual power or energy

Energy initiations and transmissions are rituals in which a teacher or practitioner is said to impart spiritual power, abilities or access to energy to a participant. They are described as “initiation”, “activation”, “opening” or “transmission”. Reiki and shaktipat are examples of such practices.

These rituals are presented as opening chakras, activating energy channels, expanding consciousness or entering a further stage of spiritual development. The participant accepts the transmission and its associated spiritual assumptions, and sometimes also commitments to a teacher or a particular system.

Promises of healing, peace or personal development do not change the spiritual nature of an initiation. Receiving power and guidance through such rituals conflicts with Christian surrender to Jesus Christ.

The spiritual response requires breaking with these initiations and all non-Christian spiritual practices associated with them. Confessing one's participation to God, repentance and renouncing the transmissions received, their spiritual purpose and the commitments associated with them are necessary. Spiritual submission to the teacher or system that was accepted must also be rejected. The foundation is acknowledging Jesus Christ as the only Lord of one's life and praying for forgiveness, cleansing and deliverance.
