Henry W. Wright and Be in Health
Teacher on spiritual roots of disease and founder of Be in Health
Description
Henry W. Wright (1944–2019) was a pastor, Bible teacher, and author. Together with his wife, Donna Wright, he founded Be in Health and Hope of the Generations Church in Thomaston, Georgia. For more than thirty years, he combined Bible study, prayer, and the examination of cases involving people seeking healing. From this work he developed the teaching he called the “possible Spiritual Roots of Disease.”
His starting point was practical ministry. Wright saw people healed in response to prayer, but he also met people who experienced no breakthrough despite repeated prayer. He therefore began seeking God about recurring obstacles and connections. He gave particular attention to fear, stress, guilt, rejection, self-rejection, unforgiveness, and broken relationships with God, oneself, and other people.
Wright did not limit his ministry to naming a root. He led people toward recognizing the problem, taking responsibility for their own response, repenting where personal sin was actually present, renouncing what had been recognized as the enemy’s work, renewing thought patterns and relationships, and praying for deliverance and healing. This does not mean blaming a person for every illness or imposing the same life story on everyone.
Wright’s best-known book is A More Excellent Way, a broad presentation of his teaching. He also wrote Exposing the Spiritual Roots of Disease. The For My Life program joined biblical teaching with time for personal application, prayer, and ministry.
According to official Be in Health materials, A More Excellent Way sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide, and the ministry received tens of thousands of testimonies of healing, restored relationships, and changed lives. Be in Health attributes healing to God; the teaching is intended to help people recognize and remove obstacles on the path to freedom, peace, and health in spirit, soul, and body.
Henry W. Wright died on November 18, 2019. Be in Health, Hope of the Generations Church, and For My Life continue the direction he helped establish. Cards in the “Spiritual Roots” section draw both on Wright’s own books and teaching and on later ministry materials; each card identifies the source of its particular profile.
