Channeling

Receiving messages from “spiritual” guides

Description

Channeling involves consciously opening oneself to messages attributed to spirits, the dead, or other entities often described as “guides.” The practitioner passes on the content received orally or in writing, while remaining conscious or entering a trance.
Scripture forbids summoning spirits and seeking knowledge or guidance from them. The gentle tone of the messages, promises of love, and references to “light” or “higher consciousness” do not change the nature of this practice or establish its spiritual safety.

##Symptoms / signs

A concerning sign is growing dependence on further “messages” when making decisions. Some people also describe a sense of an accompanying “presence,” difficulty distinguishing their own thoughts from content they regard as received from outside themselves, and strong resistance to Christian prayer or the name of Jesus.

##Possible roots / causes

Involvement in channeling may be connected with attending séances with a medium, invoking “guides,” or attempting automatic writing. This involves not only practising it oneself but also accepting other people's messages as spiritual authority.

##Help / what next

End the practice and stop seeking guidance in channeled messages. Confess your involvement to God, renounce this practice, and turn to Jesus Christ as the only Lord and Mediator. A further step may be a conversation with someone in ministry and prayer for deliverance.

“Do not turn to mediums or fortune-tellers. Do not seek instruction from them, lest you become defiled through them.”
Leviticus 19:31
