Repeated accidents
A possible family pattern
Description
Derek Prince includes accident-proneness among seven common indications of a curse. He focuses primarily on a series of unlikely events, their recurrence within a family and the presence of other indications alongside them — not on a single, isolated accident.
In the sermon “Curses — Cause”, he speaks of a member of his own family who experienced an unusual series of accidents. In “Invisible Barriers to Healing”, he describes recurring injuries and obstacles appearing as a breakthrough approaches. In “Release from the Curse — Part 1”, he also recounts the testimony of a girl who broke the same leg three times within eighteen months.
The response is prayer for the root to be revealed, forgiveness and repentance where needed, renunciation of recognised obligations and a declaration of the redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ in accordance with Galatians 3:13–14.
Symptoms / signs
A series of car accidents, falls, fractures, cuts or other injuries; successive unlikely events that form a clear sequence; similar accident-proneness among relatives; breakdowns or obstacles recurring when a person takes an important step towards freedom or change. Discernment takes account of recurrence, the pattern's reach within the family and the presence of other indications listed by Prince.
Possible roots / causes
Prince does not attribute accident-proneness to one invariably identical root. Within his broader teaching, the history that is actually present is examined: disobedience to God, occultism or idolatry, destructive words, oaths and covenants, inappropriate spiritual bonds and unforgiveness.
It is helpful to describe the events chronologically: what happened, when, in what circumstances, among which relatives and across how many generations. It is then examined whether other patterns occur alongside the accidents and whether the history points to a specific spiritual root.
Effects
Recurring injuries and losses, fear of another event, a sense of constant danger, discouragement and the impression that just before a breakthrough something always appears that stops the person or family.
Help / what next
Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the root, forgive where there is unforgiveness, repent of one's own sin and renounce identified practices, words, oaths or bonds. On the basis of Galatians 3:13–14, declare the redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ, reject the operation of the curse and pray for protection, the breaking of the recurring sequence of events and entry into blessing.
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us.”
