Equipped for His Work
A.B. Simpson
“May He equip you for every good work” — Hebrews 13:21.
In the beautiful prayer at the close of Hebrews, we read: “Now may the God of peace, who brought our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, back from the dead through the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you for every good work to do His will.” The phrase “equip you for every good work” is said to mean, literally, “adjust you for every good work.”
It is a great thing to be rightly adjusted: adjusted to our surroundings and circumstances rather than trying to have them adjusted to us; adjusted to the people among whom we find ourselves; adjusted to the work God has for us, rather than trying to get God to help us do our own work. It means having our whole life adjusted to His very will and plan for us. This is the secret of rest, power, and freedom in our life’s work.
Oh, fill me with Your fullness, Lord,
Until my very heart overflows
In kindling thought and glowing word,
To tell Your love and show Your praise.
Oh, use me, Lord, use even me,
Just as You will, and when, and where,
Until I see Your blessed face
And share Your rest, Your joy, Your glory.
