He Himself Is Our Comfort
A.B. Simpson
“Do not be dismayed, for I am your God” — Isaiah 41:10.
How tenderly God is always calming our fears! How gently He says in Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.” Then, with still more tender care, He says, “I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’” He does not say it just once. He keeps holding our right hand and repeating such promises.
Our blessed Lord has gathered all this eternal comfort into one brief message to the disciples on the Sea of Galilee: “It is I; do not be afraid.” He does not say, “It is over,” or “It is morning,” or “The weather is fine,” or “The water is calm.” He says, “It is I; do not be afraid.” He is the antidote to fear, the remedy for trouble, the substance and the sum of deliverance.
Therefore, we should rise above fear. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Him. Let us remain continually in Him. Let us be content with Him. Let us cling closely to Him and cry, “We will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains are carried into the midst of the sea.”
