Do More Than Ask: Receive

A.B. Simpson

“Ask, and it will be given to you” — Matthew 7:7.

We must receive as well as ask. We need to take our stand in faith and recognize that we have done so. A friend said, “I want to enter God’s will.” The answer was, “Will you step into God’s will? And now, are you in His will?” That question awakened a thought that had never occurred to him before.

He realized that he had been straining after the blessing he sought without receiving it.

Jesus said, “Ask, and you will receive.” That very straining holds the blessing back. Such intense tension throughout your spiritual being binds you and closes you to the blessing God is waiting to give. “Whoever desires it, let him take the water of life freely.”

He tells me there is cleansing
from every hidden sin,
and a great and full salvation
to guard the heart within.
So I receive Him in His fullness,
with all His glorious grace.
For He says it becomes mine by receiving,
and I receive just what He says.
