Surrender Your Will to God

A.B. Simpson

“Not as I will, but as You will” — Matthew 26:39.

“To will and to act according to His good pleasure” — Philippians 2:13.

There are two attitudes in which we should give our will to God.

The first is surrender. This is where we must all begin: by yielding our natural will to God and allowing Him to take possession of it.

Next, God wants our will to become victorious. As soon as He receives it in sincere surrender, He wants to fill it with His own will and make it stronger than ever in His service. From then on, it is no longer our will, but His. Once it has yielded to His choice and placed itself under His direction, God wants to give it all the strength and intensity of His own mighty will. He wants to make us resolute, powerful, victorious, and unshakable, as He Himself is.

“Not My will, but Yours be done” is the first step. “Father, I desire that those You have given Me may be with Me” is the second attitude. Both come from God, both are right, and both are necessary if we are to live rightly and work fruitfully for Him.
