Someone God Can Depend On

“I know him and know that he will keep the law” — a paraphrase of Genesis 18:19.
God wants people He can depend on. Of Abraham He could say, “I know him […] so that the Lord may bring about for Abraham all that He has promised him.”
God can be depended on. He wants us to be just as resolute, reliable, and steadfast. This is what faith means. God is looking for people on whom He can place the full weight of His love, His power, and His faithful promises. When He finds such a person, there is nothing He will not do for him.
God’s engines are strong enough to pull any weight we attach to them. Unfortunately, the cable we fasten to the engine is often too weak to bear the weight of our prayer. That is why God trains, disciplines, and instructs us, teaching us steadfastness and assurance in the life of faith. Let us learn these lessons and stand firm.
God has His best for the few
who dare to endure the test.
For those who will not have His best,
He has His second choice.
Lord, give me the best You have;
let others take the rest.
The good things they possess do not attract me,
for I have received Your best.
