Psychometry — clairvoyance presented as prophecy
A warning about a supposed word from God that requires touch
If someone claiming to be a prophet needs to touch you or receive your photograph, jewellery or clothing in order to deliver a supposed word from God, that should raise a red flag. Why would physical contact be a condition for receiving a prophetic message?
This way of working resembles esoteric psychometry — a practice in which someone uses a personal object or touch and claims to receive images, impressions or information about the person concerned. The method appears in accounts of clairvoyance and mediumship. The message may concern someone's life or be presented as a prediction of the future.
One example is the way of working described by a clairvoyant well known throughout Poland. His website asks people searching for missing persons to bring clothing and a photograph. In an interview, he describes taking a photograph or an item of clothing, smelling it and holding it close to his forehead before obtaining a vision.
The Holy Spirit does not need touch or a personal object as a condition for conveying a word. God is omniscient, and distance does not limit His knowledge or His action. The Bible does not present contact with a person or their belongings as a necessary method of receiving prophetic revelation.
If someone makes the message dependent on such contact, we must examine what practice they are performing and what they identify as its source. Calling a reading “prophecy”, a “word of knowledge” or an “anointing” does not turn an esoteric method into a gift of the Holy Spirit.
True words are not enough to identify the source
In Acts 16:16–18, a woman with a spirit of divination said that Paul and his companions were servants of the Most High God and proclaimed the way of salvation. Her words were true, yet Paul did not accept this as testimony coming from the Holy Spirit. He addressed the spirit and commanded it, in the name of Jesus Christ, to come out of the woman.
This is a clear warning: accurate information and religious language do not establish that a message comes from God. Not everyone who invokes the Lord speaks on His behalf. Not everyone who calls themselves a prophet prophesies by the Spirit of God.
If a similar practice appears in a church, ask directly: why is touch necessary? The way this person operates should immediately be brought to the attention of the church leaders or pastor.
Esoteric psychometry is not a Christian practice. It does not become the gift of prophecy through a change of name or the use of religious language.
