Jahbulon / Jabulon
Royal Arch and the spiritual consequences of oaths
Description
Jahbulon, Jabulon, or similar variants of this name appear in the history of certain Royal Arch Freemasonry rituals. The name does not occur in the Bible, but it was used in Masonic tradition and became the subject of many interpretations concerning its origin and meaning.
Derek Prince discusses Jahbulon in his teaching on Freemasonry, oaths, and curses. He interprets the name as a combination of Jehovah, Baal, and Osiris and sees in it spiritual syncretism — placing the name of the God of the Bible alongside the names of pagan deities. In his teaching, however, the problem is not limited to the meaning of a single word. Far more important are the initiations, oaths, secret commitments, and curse formulas pronounced during Masonic rituals.
Prince gives particular attention to oaths in which a person voluntarily binds themselves by a commitment and pronounces consequences over themselves for breaking secrecy. He treats them as spiritual covenants and self-curses that must later be explicitly broken.
If a person actually belonged to Freemasonry, passed through Royal Arch degrees, participated in initiations, pronounced oaths, or accepted secret commitments, merely leaving the organization does not close the spiritual dimension of the former involvement. Before God, the person must identify what they participated in, confess the sin connected with idolatry and spiritual covenants, and renounce Freemasonry and everything that was received through it.
One’s own oaths, vows, initiations, formulas of self-curse, and secret commitments should be revoked. Jahbulon should also be renounced in the meaning in which it was received during the ritual, together with every spiritual dedication that placed another authority alongside God or in the place belonging to Jesus Christ.
If Masonic involvement occurred in the family, Prince’s teaching also treats this as an area that should be given to God. A person may reject the effects of oaths, curses, and spiritual commitments connected with Freemasonry in the family line, refusing to continue receiving them as part of their own inheritance.
Where there was actual involvement in initiations, oaths, and spiritual commitments, merely speaking a few words of renunciation may not end the matter. If demonic bondage connected with Freemasonry, idolatry, or former covenants is present, prayer for deliverance is needed. Spiritual claims arising from earlier agreements should be broken, and in the name of Jesus Christ the influences connected with them should be commanded to leave.
The response to former covenants is a renewed, conscious declaration of exclusive belonging to Jesus Christ. What was previously bound by an oath, initiation, or secret commitment is placed under His lordship.
“You shall have no other gods before me.”
