Pendulum

Dowsing and divination using a pendulum

Description

A pendulum is used in radiesthesia and divination to obtain answers to questions and seek hidden knowledge. Its movement is sometimes attributed to energy, intuition, the subconscious or other invisible influences.

When the pendulum’s indications become an oracle through which a person seeks knowledge and guidance, the practice takes on a divinatory character. Scripture forbids divination (Deuteronomy 18:10–11), regardless of what the supposed source of the answers is called.

Symptoms / signs

A troubling sign is increasing dependence on the pendulum’s indications: difficulty making decisions without using it, fear of acting against an answer received and constant checking of earlier indications. This may be accompanied by persistent anxiety and weakened trust in God. These difficulties alone, however, do not establish their spiritual source.

Possible roots / causes
Involvement may include using a pendulum oneself, receiving services from someone who uses it, or attending courses that teach the practice. What matters is not merely coming into contact with the object, but consciously accepting its indications as a reliable source of answers.

Help / what next

End the practice and remove the pendulum you used for divination. Confess your involvement to God, renounce this practice and turn to Him as the source of wisdom and guidance. You may also ask someone in ministry for a conversation and for prayer in the name of Jesus Christ for deliverance and the restoration of peace.

“Let no one be found among you who practices divination.”
