Initiations and energy transmissions

Rituals that “open” a person to spiritual abilities or powers

Description

Terms such as “initiation,” “activation,” “opening,” or “energy transmission” are used for many rituals in which a teacher or practitioner is said to give a participant a power, ability, or access to spiritual energy. Reiki and shaktipat have their own cards; this entry concerns other practices with a similar structure.

Their common element is conscious submission to spiritual influence and the reception of a power whose origin the participant cannot test. An appealing name or a promise of healing, development, or “higher vibration” does not make such a transmission neutral or compatible with the gospel.

After initiations, some people report new bodily sensations, a sense of a foreign presence, dreams, changes in consciousness, difficulty in Christian prayer, or a tie to the person who performed the transmission. The ritual’s actual spiritual purpose and the consent to receive its influence are especially important.

The path to freedom includes renouncing the initiation, its purpose, the received power, and spiritual submission to any person or being connected with it. In prayer, Jesus Christ can be confessed as the only Lord, resulting ties broken, and cleansing and deliverance sought.

Symptoms / signs

After such initiations, some people report experiences resembling those associated with Reiki and kundalini: new bodily sensations, a sense of an accompanying presence, and difficulty in Christian prayer.

Possible roots / causes

Participation in rituals called initiation, activation, opening, or transmission, receiving spiritual power from a teacher or practitioner, and consenting to the opening of chakras, abilities, or “energy channels.”

Doors / context

What matters is not the commercial name of the service, but its actual purpose: receiving power, opening to energy, activating abilities, or submitting spiritually to the person leading the ritual.

Effects

Possible effects include new distressing sensations, a sense of a foreign presence, changes in consciousness, difficulty in prayer, and a spiritual tie to the person, being, or system connected with the initiation.

Help / what next

Renounce the received initiation, its purpose, and the transmitted power, break spiritual submission to any person or being connected with it, and turn to God in Jesus Christ’s name in prayer for cleansing and deliverance.
